“Kimberly showed me how to improve my piece without overshadowing my voice, all while being very gentle yet direct with her edits, which is the exact approach that helps me as a developing but sensitive writer. I definitely recommend Kimberly for any editing project!”

The Team

The Editor
Kimberly is a communication devotee and professional editor born and raised in Vermont with over a decade of experience in the storytelling, communications, and media industries.
She received her Copyediting Certificate from the University of California San Diego Extension, a B.S. in communications from Clarkson University, and studied trade book copyediting with Susannah Noel of Editorial Arts Academy.
When she isn’t editing, Kimberly can be found at the local tea shop or taking long walks—preferably in nature and barefoot! She enjoys drinking tea as a mindfulness practice or with good company and deep conversation.

The Cat
Arctica is a nap devotee born and raised in Vermont with a strong background in meowing, looking cute, and clawing things.
When she isn’t napping, Arctica can be found begging for pets, finding every possible source of noise and making it, and knocking things off high places.
“Your line editing was a great combination of honesty and support and just what I needed at that stage, and your emphasis on helping me maintain my own writing style but improve clarity made the piece noticeably better. All your work was delivered in a very professional manner and exactly on schedule.”

The Business
Do you…
Worry that typos and inconsistencies will undermine your story or message?
Struggle to understand the intricate rules and guidance surrounding commas and other punctuation?
Suspect you haven’t spelled and used every word the way you meant to?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re not alone! Publishers often employ multiple rounds of copyediting and proofreading to address this main issue: As writers, we all get too close to our own work and can’t see many of our mistakes and logical gaps.
My specialty is tradebook editing or any editing for a general audience. I mainly work with creative/narrative nonfiction (e.g. autobiography, memoir) as well as some fiction and speculative fiction.
I charge an hourly rate and provide a range estimate at the beginning of the project. I will never bill more than the range estimate without prior consent. I use the below per-word rates as a baseline and adjust as needed according to the manuscript and sample edit.
Important Note: You may use the below per-word rates as a baseline, but actual editing rates will generally be higher; it depends on the state of the manuscript and the timeline of the project. Rush fees are applied to projects requiring tight turnarounds.
| EDITORIAL SERVICES | RATES (starting at) |
| Line Edit | $.02+ per word |
| Copyedit (Standard) | $.02+ per word |
| Line + Copyedit (a.k.a. Heavy Copyedit) | $.035+ per word |
| Proofread | $.01+ per word |
| Line + Copyedit + Proofread | $.04+ per word |
| Editing Consultation | $40 per hour |
I mainly work with The Chicago Manual of Style (18th Edition), Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th Edition), and house style guides. I am familiar editing in Microsoft Word and Google Docs and proofreading in Adobe Acrobat.
I provide complimentary sample edits and introductory consultations to help prospective clients get to know me and my work, and I them and theirs.
“I hired Kimberly for an editing project that required meticulous attention to detail and a quick turnaround. She exceeded my expectations! Throughout the process, she communicated clearly and promptly, ensuring the project stayed on track. Her edits were thorough, insightful, and well-documented, and made a real difference in the final manuscript. I would hire her again in a heartbeat!”
